Revised Article 7 of the Indiana Code Avaliable

Article 7 of the Indiana Code is the law that covers special education in the State of Indiana. In the 2008 Legislative Season this law was revised and went into effect on August 13, 2008. If your child is enrolled in a public school in Indiana, it is essential to review the changes to the Indiana Code. How do I choose an Education Attorney in my State?

I receive many phone calls from parents all over the country, and hundreds of e-mails a week, from parents looking for attorneys focused in education matters in their state. In many states in the mid-west there are very few attorneys who represent parents in educational matters. Regardless of where you live it is essential that before you hire a counsel to represent you in a special education matter, a school discipline matter, or a personal injury situation in a school, that you ask the attorneys experience. Depending on your situation questions would include: 1) How many Due Process cases have you had? 2) How many cases have gone to hearing? 3) Have you ever sued a school district in federal court? 4) Have you sued a school district in State court? 5) What percentage of your school cases have ended in settlement and what percentage went to trial? Another resource for parents is the internet and parent advocates. Nearly every state has a parent's advocasy group - call them and ask for help. When it comes to your child, make decisions based on information, not emotion.
